Staci Coleman is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and a descendent of the Cherokee Nation. She has been committed to Indian law throughout her career and joined Hobbs Straus in 2001 to continue making a difference in Indian Country. Her primary focus is to assist Oklahoma tribes on issues of tribal jurisdiction and sovereignty, governmental development, land acquisitions, and gaming.
Staci supports tribal clients as they interact with various federal agencies, including helping tribal entities obtain Small Business Administration 8(a) certification and coordinating with the Internal Revenue Service regarding a multiyear, multi-entity civil audit. On behalf of several Oklahoma tribes, including the Absentee Shawnee Tribe, the Comanche Nation, and the Cherokee Nation, she worked with state agencies, educators, and the horse-racing industry to approve a comprehensive Class III gaming compact—the Oklahoma Model Tribal-State Gaming Compact.
While earning her law degree, Staci served as an intern at the White House, Office of Counsel to the President; United States Department of Justice, Office of Tribal Justice; and Oklahoma Indian Legal Services. She was a member of the Georgetown International Environmental Law Review and founder and president of the Native American Law Students Association.
Staci’s spare time is filled with raising her two young daughters. She is secretary of her neighborhood association board, a member of a book club, and the organizer of a monthly lunch group.
