Homeland Security & Disaster Preparedness

  • Monitor and report to tribal clients on the impact on Indian tribes of federal efforts to address the threat of terrorism through the Department of Homeland Security and to develop effective responses to medical and similar disasters.
  • Collaborate with National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) to advocate for tribal rights and fair treatment of tribal members on legislation and regulations regarding homeland security.
  • Identified and addressed problems created for tribes by recent legislation including the REAL ID Act and the impairment of tribal rights to cross and re-cross the international boundaries and the movement to require a technological upgrade of state driver’s licenses (at state expense) for such purposes as entering any federal building or boarding commercial airliners.
  • Monitor and report to tribal clients on the development of quarantine regulations.
